A tax levied on the purchase price of imported goods is an import duty. When goods are imported from outside the EU, VAT is charged at the same rate as if they were purchased in the UK.

A type of tax based on the value of imported products is called an import duty. Another tax that the end user must pay is Value Added Tax (VAT).
